Now that Ancestry is charging for access to family trees (it used to be free

relatively new.

Carole-

In the first place, this topic is not relevant to the subject matter of the
list--Philadelphia genealogical research; and, in the second place, the
information you have posted is completely innacurate.

In matters like this if you are doubtful about something but feel the list
members NEED to know about it, check it out with me BEFORE posting an
inflamatory and inaccurate message to the list. All I can assume is that your
intentioin is to incite the list into some sort of rebellion against Ancestry and that
is WAY more than off-topic for this list or any list the company is kind
enough to host for us on a free basis.

Let's set the record straight, Family Trees you submit to RootsWeb's
WorldConnect and/or Ancestry World Tree continue to be free for anyone to access and
search just as they always have been. NOTHING has changed as to your use of
WorldConnect/AWT's combined database.

The new program that has recently come along is One World Tree (OWT) which is
a new advanced subscription search feature that matches data found in the
free trees and the pay databases and census records found at Ancestry, and
stitches it into a finished product to cut out the work of searching and matching
data for the subscriber. What the subcriber to OWT is paying for is the
convenience of having the searching and matching done for him....not for accessing or
searching the free family trees housed on their site.

I'm very disappointed that you chose to present incorrect information that is
off-topic and inflamatory without first running this by me as admin and
obtaining the correct information.
