Karen,
I checked on HeritageQuest (image quality is sometimes different than on Ancestry) and it looks like "Paintier" to me (painter?), but it's very light, especially the first few letters. Generally, I'm used to seeing ironworking, pipefitting, etc. at the Navy yard, but I suppose painter is possible. Maybe someone with better eyes/monitor resolution/knowledge of shipbuilding will recognize something more exotic in the occupation?? Good luck!
