john,3), of kittery, maine, a lieutenant in 1862 and 1863 in company g,
twenty-seventh regiment, main volunteers, selectman, tax collector, town
clerk, representative in the maine legislature, machinist, was born 1 june
1838. he married, 6 aug. 1863, annie elizabeth pierce, born 24 jan. 1884,
died 24 dec. 1901, daughter of daniel and mary joanna (bartlett) pierce of
kittery.

the following entries were copied from a record book kept by capt. elisha
goodwin of eliot, maine, who recorded all the deaths he found in eliot and
surrounding towns, most of which occurred between 1820 and 1840. a few
births of members of his immediate family are included.

edward brown of newbury, mass., and some of his descendants by russell leigh
jackson, of marblehead, mass.
1. edward1 brown, cooper, ancestor of a family which has been conspicuous
for its sea-faring activities and for the number of its sea captains, born
in reading, mass., 6 apr. 1680, died in newbury, mass., 4 mar. 1737, son of
edward and sarah (dix)* brown of reading. he married in reading, 4 dec.
1701, sarah ingalls, born in lynn, mass., 19 sept. 1677, died in newbury 13
july 1737, daughter of robert and rebecca (leighton) ingalls of lynn.
*sarah dix was the daughter of ralph dix of ipswich, mass.
edward brown left an estate valued at 227/7/6. his cooperage tools are
mentioned in the inventory of his estate.

newbury, who lived in the spencer-peirce house in that town. the house of
moses peirce stood on water street between lime and federal streets in
newburyport and his rope-walk was also in that vicinity.

s., 13 june 1754, d. in salem, ohio, 18 jan. 1832, son of benjamin,
merchant, royalist, and maersje (bant) leigh of new york city and boston.
benjamin leigh, jr., was engaged in the manufacture of cordage in
newburyport and was part owner of the brigantine lavinia and the schooner
fame. he became a stockholder in the ohio company and in 1817 remoed to
marietta, ohio, later settling in dexter township.
after his death in 1832, his son robert, daughter anna, and widow moved to
knox county, illinois where descendants still live. he serve din capt.
johnson moulton's (york) company during the revolution, not sharing his
father's tory sentiments.

stephen hopkins of the mayflower and some of his descendants compiled by
timothy hopkins of san francisco (starts page 304)
72. joseph6 hopkins (jonathan,5 joseph,4 stephen,3 giles,2 stephen1), born
probably on cape cod 6 april 1751, died in southeast, n.y., 31 jan. 1833,
age 81 years. he married 28 sept. 1755 elizabeth townsend, born 16 june
1755, died 16 dec. 1837, age 82 years.
he removed with his father to putnam county, n.y., in 1755. he appears in
the 1790 census in fredericksburg, n. y., with family 2-2-8.. he lied in
peekskill and in phillipstown, n. y., and is buried in sears burying ground
in southeast.
he was a member of the seventh regiment dutchess county militia in the
revolutionary war. he received certificate #42,578 for L2.7s 1d for
services in colonel henry ludenton's dutchess county regiment. his father,
jonathan5 hopkins, and his brother, jonathan6 hopkins, also served in this
regiment, as did daniel cole's father and grandfather.

about three months in the war of 1812.

the sawdy family of boston, rhode island, and points west by jane fletcher
fiske (editor of the register and author of thomas cooke of rhode island (w
vl., boxford, mass., 1987).

joseph sawdy evidently removed to newport at this time, for he was called of
newport in the marriage record of his daughter mary in 1701. newport county
court records indicate that in 1716 he was sued by daniel pearce in newport
superior court.

mary ye wife of george peirce of portsmouth made solemn oath yt ye 8d
marriage was celebrated at her ye sd mary(?) mother's house in portsmouth ye
day and year above mentioned. jurat before josh peirce jus pac feb 25th
1740-1.

daniel peirce and anna rindge were married 29th octo 1742. the said anna
died 19th octo 1748.
