Subject: [PILE] Conrod PILE, Sr., of Orange Co., NC
Date: Wed, 5 Sep 2007 22:44:09 -0500
This is in reply to Carl WOODS's Sept. 5, 2007, posting to the RootsWeb
PYLE list. I believe I am also descended from Coonrod PILE of Fentress
Co., TN, through his son John C. PILE and grandson Levi PILE. It is
believed that Coonrod's father was a Hessian mercenary during the
American Revolutionary War. Hessen is a state in Germany. It is
believed that the German name of PFEIL was Anglicized as PILE. The
Hessian mercenaries fought on the British side during the American
Revoluationary War.
See the following site, Person's 220 and 221, for additional information
about Coonrod's family of origin:

0007.html#CHILD65795
Note that this site states that "In March 1792, Conrod Pile, Sr. signed
his name in Germanic writing." Coonrod's father Conrod PILE, Sr.,
settled in Orange Co., NC.
The book "Sgt. York and His People," by Sam COWAN, 1922, is available
through the following site:

This book includes some information about the colorful history of
Coonrod PILE and his family in Fentress Co., TN.
For additional information about this family, also see my June 18, 2007,
posting at the following site:

I'm connected to Coonrod Pile and the families story is that they came
from
Pa. and was of German ancestry or Black Dutch. I hope that one of these
days
to get further back, but just haven't had any luck yet.
