Thea:
There was no such census with this name. The State of Alabama did
however conduct an 1866 State Census of all citizens, black and white. The
extant copies of this census is available for research at the Alabama Dept
of Archives and History in Montgomery. Only the name and age of head of
households were named and a number for other persons living in the household
with a sex and age breakdown given, no names. The existing paperwork is
contained on 10 rolls of microfilm. All the counties you were inteested in
were microfilmed, except one. The following counties data is in book form
only: Barbour, Chambers, Cherokee, Choctow, and DeKalb. For $20 per roll,
the ADAH will copy the roll on which your county exists. There are multiple
counties represented on a single roll. Contact Frazine Taylor at (334)
242-4363, ext. 244 for more information.

I am trying to find the 1866 Alabama Colored people census reports for the
following counties:

Randolph, Clay, Chambers, Tallapoosa, Greene, Pickens, and Sumter

Does anyone know where I should look?

Thea
