The entire set of the Slownik Geograficzny on microfiche are at the
Hemet, CA FHC, which is in "The Top Ten" in the US.
I once ordered a microfilm showing the town I needed. The copies from it
were O.K,, but very dark. The microfiche made beautiful copies. The cost
to make a copy of each page varies in the US. At Hemet, it is 35 cents
per page to copy, and all copies made must be paid for, regardless of
how it turns out. Due to copyright laws, the patron must make their own
copies.
The cost to rent a film for 50-60 days is $3.75. The cost to order a
microfiche is 17 cents each, and there are various numbers of fiche in
each set of towns. I paid about $29.00 the entire set. Microfiche are
kept indefinitely at the FHC through where they are ordered. California
charges the LDS for tax on the items ordered from Salt Lake, therefore
costs are higher than some other states.
