I am hoping someone can solve a long standing puzzle for me. On my
grandfather, Peter KOWALSKI's ship's manifest, in the column listing
occupation, there are just numbers. Others have occupations listed like
laborer or serving girl, etc. Does anyone know what these number's are? My
aunt thought maybe he was a deserter. He sailed with his sister and a
niece, which also had numbers. This was in 1912. He sailed from Rotterdam
to New York. He was born in Wolaradcicko, Poland.
I certainly give thanks to anyone who can clear this up for me.
