To add my similar experience....
My father and his sisters knew that the first 2 children born in their
family had died at a young age. No one knew anything about the children
(name, gender, birthdate, death date, etc.) and the graves were not
located. I was researching church records on a microfilm at the LDS and a
blotch on a page caught my eye. Lucky me since I found one of the
childrens' baptismal information. You can imagine my father's surprise
when I told him the story.
My fathers' family has been associated with one church in Buffalo. I did
not have luck in finding the second missing child's baptismal record. Luck
struck again when I was searching records for the church my mother's family
was associated with in Buffalo. Something on the film caught my eye again
and guess who I found - my father's other missing sibling!!
Lesson of the story - if you know that a child existed, and cannot find a
church record for him/her, maybe the event occurred at another church in
close proximity.
Has anyone had a similar experience - finding a record in a different
church than expected? Do you have any suggestions as to why this 1 child
(not the first born) was baptised at a different church than all other
children in the family? I realize that there could be a simple
explanation, but maybe not? The family was in the same house for both
baptisms.
Just curious.

(Also - let me take this opportunity to say THANKS to those who shared
their thoughts - all of them - about pink flamingoes. I started that
thread, and do not want to start anything again on the topic. I now have a
better guess at why my mom had an interest in getting a pair for the yard -
I suspect she got the idea from growing up in Buffalo (near Cheektowaga).
I will be getting a pair but plan to only display them as a type of house
marker for when I have a party so that guests will know when they found the
right house - my neighbors would think they are tacky if I had them out all
the time!)

Shirley,
Don't be shocked about finding children you never heard about. My
ggrandmother had 8 children only 2 made it to adulthood the other 6 died
real young most only lived 9 months. It was known that she had them but
nobody knew their names or what happened to them. I'm happy but sad to
say that I found all six missing children by looking through the church
baptismal records I have found 3 in a death index and so far have found
where one is buried. On the other hand I found two children that nobody
knew about from my other ggrandparents there may be more another trip to
the church may clear it up. Just to let you know your not alone
