I have been told by archives workers both state and national that they
receive so many requests that each one is alloted only 20 minutes of
researching. If they don't find the record in that amount of time then
they say the records wasn't found. This is true but doesn't mean the
record doesn't exist just that they didn't find it in the specified
time allowance.. If your information is scanty then you would be better
off going to look for yourself since you could spend more time searching
and also would have the knowledge of variant spellings etc. Even if your
information is specific as to time and place etc. you might find
something else while searching that the archivist would have no idea you
were interested in.
