If you go to Poland, you need only one phrase:
"Jestem Amerikanin"
this will provoke one of two reactions:
"I have a cousin in Pittsburgh, do you know Pittsburgh?"
or
"Another *%^(^&() illiterate"
Seriously though, my cousin in Poland said they consider any American
who keeps their Polish surname an honorary Pole.
