I just checked my wedding pictures. I found two from Poland with both brides
wearing "corsages" as well as carrying bouquets. The grooms have the usual
boutonneire. I remember that my Polish grandmother's headpiece, which looks
very similar to the ones in these photos, was made of wax and resembled
orange blossoms. It must have been cold when one these pictures were taken
because the bride has on a full length fitted jacket over her wedding dress
with the corsage on the outside for her bridal picture. I also checked some
wedding photos from Moravia (Zwittau) and both of these couple have on `what
looks like long sprigs of rosemary (for remembrance?) which are tied in two
places with white bows. The pictures date from the early 1900's The flowers
are on their left sides over their hearts in the Moravian pictures and the
Polish ones have one on the left and one on the right. Now I only wish I
knew who the pictures were of. The wedding certificate is in evidence in one
of the Polish photos and both are taken in the same studio in Bielitz (German
photographer). Just as an aside I have been going thru boxes of photos that
I have inherited. Most mean nothing as I can't identify them, but the ones
I have figured out I have sent to descendants of these people (some of whom I
have discovered on the internet) and they have been thrilled. I have sent
some photos back to Europe. I guess we should all realized that we won't be
here forever and that everything should be labeled.
