Subject: [POLAND] Soika's In NY from Poland
Date: Fri, 6 Feb 2004 07:05:33 EST
Hello Listers,
Is there anyone able to do an 1870 census lookup for me for NY? I am
researching John Joseph Soika, B 1842, and Mary Bucholz Soika, B 1851....both born
in Poland, The couple came to the US about 1868 to 1870 with 2 children,
Michael, bn 1865 and Catherine, bn 1867. I have thus far been unable to find
any information that would lead me to their hometown in Poland. The family
settled in Minnesota, but not before having 2 more children (Joseph in 1870 and
Josephine in 1871) born in New York......I believe in Syracuse but Joseph may
have been born in NYC. The 1895 census for Minnesota shows Mary's parents
(Antoni and Mary Bucholz, both bn abt 1808) living with them at the time, so I
believe they may have all immigrated together. The 1920 census for one of John's
sons showed that his parents came from Warsaw, but that is the first and only
thing I've found with an association to any city in Poland. The family were
farmers, which leads me to think they did not live in the city of Warsaw, but
perhaps closeby. I'm hoping that the 1870 census can shed more light on
this for me. Any help is much appreciated.
