I would be surprised if this was a custom brought over from Poland
since peasant Poles, until recently, didn't seem to adorn the little
ones with jewelry (now they give them cell phones!)
I think the baby ring custom was something that could be found in
several different nationalities throughout the U.S. My Irish husband
(1943) had one and he bought one for our oldest son in 1981.
