I am researching the life of my great grandfather, George Diplock, born 1841 in Hamsey, Sussex, who joined the East Sussex constabulary in Lewes as a constable in 1865. He was later transferred to East Hoathly, Newhaven and Ringmer where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He ended his career as police superintendent in Uckfield 1889-1896. Does anyone have any details of his working life or any background history of the East Sussex Constabulary covering the period of his working life (1865-1896).
