Subject: Henry Bowers in Stockport 1843/1845


Looking for info on Henry Bowers my wifes ggg grandfather . On birth
certificate of his son John in 1843 his occupation is listed as a police
officer. Wife Emma Worsley b abt 1817. Residence 1843 Arden Pool
Stockport. Also listed in local directory in 1845 as police officer at 5
Union St Stockport. By 1867 ( Johns Marriage ) was a Painter.Cannot find
in 1851 Stockport Census.

When did local police force start? Any ideas on where to find records.
