Subject: [POLISH-NOBILITY] Nobility & Land Grants - Follow-up

Hello all,
First, let me take this opportunity to thank you all for the help on my
posting yesterday.
As a follow-up, I was just curious, if an individual is granted the status
of nobility and a grant of land, who determines what clan the family will be
attached to?
In this case, we have two families who were granted the status of nobility
sometime in the early 1500's. They were, apparently, given the right to bear
the arms of the Labedz clan. As I understand it, this clan originated in the
1300's. I'm not sure if my question can be easily answered, but who or how
was it determined that this was the clan they were going to be associated
to? Is it possible previous ties to this clan existed? Or in a more broader
sense, I'm not sure how to word this, did affiliation with a certain clan
(indeed, if there was any in this particular case) determine what clan a
particular family would be associated to if they were granted noble status?
Or was this something which are more or less arbitrarily decided by the
king?
Again, any thoughts/opinions would be most appreciated - I am trying to
better understand how a particular village in Galicia (Mshanets) was founded
and why the nobles there were associated with this particular clan.
Thank you all in advance!!
