Susan,
I never noticed that Syrian before. On the record I found after you
mentioned it, there were a bunch of them but they spelled it Pontus I think.
On some of the earliest records in America (Rev. War records) the name was
even spelled Ponges and Pongeas, which gives you some idea of how those
folks pronounced it. It amazes me how such a simple name, even found in the
Bible, could end up with so many spellings and even different
pronunciations.
Thanks for pointing this out, and Happy New Year to you!
Len

Hello Len and all,
Thanks very much for sending on this website, it is a wonderful resource.
Found a number of family in the Ohio records, although few were still there
from my Pontius family.
On an old topic, Len, sometime last year you mentioned finding Pontius
ancestors on immigration resources at Ancestry. Just for the heck of it, I
looked there for Pontius immigrants and found that someone by the name of
Pontius came over from Syria! So our surname certainly got around.
Regards,
Susan Sauve
