Subject: [POSEN-L] Mlyn Hamerek = ?Hammermühle?
Date: Tue, 3 Nov 1998 23:48:24 -0500
Well, let's step back and cogitate for a minute. Does this name appear
often? (Well, more than once?) I mean, this isn't in reference to where
where some visiting uncle from out of town lived, right?
If we can be confident that Mlyn ?Hamerek? is in the parish, we can assume
that it was on one of the millstreams. The most obvious one is the
Margoniner Mühlenfließ which drains out of the Margonin lake a little west
of Margonin and flows NNW to the Netze river, through Nalentscha/Ratschin.
There were also some mills NE of Samotschin. NW of Margonin was a hamlet
called Müllersfelde (Millersfield). It's in the field next to the mills
listed next. On the Polish map it's called Mlynary. On the Margoniner
Mühlenfließ were: the Obermühle, Neu Mühle I and Neu Mühle II, Wesrednik,
Sage Mühle, Much Mühle and Nadolnik Mühle. On the other stream I only find
the Borowo Mühle. HOWEVER, I just remembered, after catching a glimpse in
the corner of my eye, that a "suburb" of Samotschin, was called
"Hammermühle", which almost *has* to be it. This was on the other side of
an open area NW of Samotschin, where two small woods "pinch" together and a
small stream passes through. It had maybe a dozen buildings. If I don't get
you a map image in the next few weeks, remind me, k?
I have the same map series as you (but more area).
I would appreciate a list of any other locations from these Catholic
records that you might put together, to correlate with the German versions.
I'm going to post this to the list, about the Hammerm¨hle guess, to see if
the Polish-savvy members can shed some light, linquistically.
I don't know about 'Kryger' being 'Kruger'. Krüger is a common name, but it
wouldn't hurt to post, regardless. (Oops, I just did.)
