Ken,
I don't know specifically about the Pommeranian area, however, what I have
learned over the past few months is that when our ancestors settled in the US
they tried to choose a climate and territory that was similar to their
homeland. This was probably not always the case as some ended up in warmer
climates, etc. My family settled in Sanilac County Michigan which is still
not hugely populated and I always wondered how they found out about it! They
also seemed to follow others of the same ethnic background. Hope this helps
some.
