Hi Ken,

Some of my RUSCH family were from Kreis Belgard. The first one, Herman
RUSCH, is said to have lived in the Chicago area for a few years before
moving to Nebraska. The succeeding immigrant family members went
straight to Nebraska.

Have you seen the names RUSCH, VOELZ, or LABS in any of those records?

I can tell you this about some of my other immigrant ancestors. One
brother came (alone? with other families?) to Wisconsin. He encouraged
his brother to come, and so a dozen families from the same general area
in Brandenburg came together and formed a new community. I'm sure that
over the next several years, a number of other families also came. The
fact that they knew someone in that new area would make immigrating less
frightening and more inviting. (BTW, 20 years later a large group from
that WI community moved to near Vandalia, Fayette Co., Illinois, and
created a new German community there.

Thanks!
Mona Houser
