Hello.
I am sendig a copy of an item offered on this list at the end of
February. It was sold quickly. I am only interested in the name of the
birthplace of Mr. Cholewinski. I used the Jewishen ShtetlSeeker and found
that Wongrowits is now Wagrowiec, Poznan. Of course the name KLEMKENHOFF
has been changed too. this did not show up on the ShtetlSeeker except as
Glinki Mokre as the main candidate. I tried writing to the seller of the
item but with no results. Is anyone familiar with this area of Posen? I
am researching the surname Klemke and the name piques my curiosity.
Also, just west of Wagrowiec is a town called KLEMPICZ (formerly
Klempitz) near Obrzycko (Obersitzko).
Is anyone familiar with this area? Klempke has been suggested as a variant
in the spelling of Klemke as is the case with Lemke. It has been suggested
to me by several people in very different areas that Lemke and Klemke are
somehow connected. I was not considering this but I have received quite a
few letters to make me wonder ..............
