Subject: [POSEN] COMING TO THE US

Can anyone explain why my Grandparents would have used
different names when coming to the US?
My Grandfather JOSEPH ULCZYCKI and his brother TYTUS
both used the surname of HULZIZKY on the ships maifest
They came to the US in 1902.
On their Declaration of Intent they both stated LELANCY
as their birthplace and LUBERCZISKI as their last place
of residence. On the ships manifest they have their nationality
as Russian, their last residence as WILNA, race and language
as Polish.
Joseph married VICTORIA SILKOWSKI on July 21, 1908
at Holy Trinity Church in Chicago. Her name on the ships
manifest was WIKTORYA MIKOLAJCYKI. She came
to the US in 1905. She lists her country of last residence
as Russia and her race as Polish. Her last place of residence
was listed as NADAWKI.

I have not been able to locate LELANCY,LUBERCZISKI,or
NADAWKI in Poland.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

Ron Seidel
