Dear Gayle,

Bilawo is one of several alternate spellings for Bielawy. (Reymann's
Special Karte, for example, uese the spelling Bielawo.) There were
many places named Bielawy in the Provinz Posen, but the one we're
dealing with here is most certainly the Bielawy that belonged to Nakel.
Bielawy was 1 or 2 miles due west of Nakel City center. The name "Bielawy"
does not show up on the 1:100,000 map but does appear on the 1:25,000
amp as well as Reymann's and Schrotter's (spelled Bielawe there).

One thing to keep in mind is that the place given in the marriage
entry is usually the place of residence at the time of marriage, not
necessarily the birthplace. Back in those days it was common for the
young men and women to leave home at the age of 14 or 15 after their
confirmation and work as farm hands or apprentices and save up some
money until they would marry and start a household of their own. Often
one finds the siblings of the ages 15-25 living in several differnt
villages from each other.

Orlemuehle was a village that also belonged to Nakel. There was a
chapel there in the early 17th C. that was associated with Zabartowo.
You may want to consider the Zabartowo records in your research. Also,
Mrotschen is, I believe, a bit closer to Orle than Nakel so don't
forget about that parish either.
