Dear James,

I have read and own both books. The Irene Berger book is in the top
two or three of my alltime favorite Netzedistrict books. The Rehfeld
book just barely makes the top ten. I must have quoted from the Irene
Berger book at least 10-15 time in this list alone. It contains a bit
of everything -- the problem with wolves in the early 19th c. the
terrible state of the schools, the problem with drunkeness, the fact
that there was only two doctors in the whole distrcit etc. All of
Berger's info is referenced to the document from which she gaind it.
Most of the documents she quotes are in the Prussian Archives in
berlin. The book really puts things in perspective, too. Even a
little ironic humor when Berger talks about how she had to read Scholem
Alechim to get a better understanding of Dorf life in the
Netzedistrict. Both books are great, but I like Berger's book the
best.

Regards, Joel Streic
