Bergheim was named Josephkowo until 1905 and now carries the Polish name
Józefkowo. It was in Kreis Schubin, Amtsbezirk Exin. It is about 5 km
southeast of Nakel (Naklo), just south of the Netze (Notec) river. This is
west of Bromberg (Bydgoszcz).
Built on a much older site, Josephkowo was founded by and named after Josef
v. Radziminski auf Zurawia in 1791. Many of the settlers came from
Jaktrowo-Hauland (Frank, Koebernick, Hein, Krüger, Sonnenberg, Hartfiel).
In 1818 there were 21 residences and 76 protestant residents. In 1833 there
were 24 residences and 164 protestant residents. Josephkowo had and has a
single street, with most of the houses on the high side, only 6 on the river
side of the road. The houses were built of clay and roofed with straw,
though they were soon redone with tile roofs.
Josephkowo belonged to the parish of Nakel until 1870, then to Neukirchen
(Sipiory). The school was built in 1828, a new one in 1910. In 1921 there
were 32 residences with 159 protestant and 6 catholic residents. In 1972
there were only about 10 houses with 60 catholic residents.
