Before you get too excited, make sure that you know what the resource is and
is not.

I'm not very experienced with it, but the books appear to be a collection of
pedigrees submitted by German genealogists.
* There appears to be some attempt to partially group the submissions by
areas of residence.
* The material that is submitted for publishing seems to be primarily "upper
crust" or "high society" familes.
* I suppose that there may be some standards applied to the research
methods, but that's just a guess.

The series has been publishing for a long time (? a hundred years?) and
there are over 200 volumes, but the number of persons that they contain is a
tiny fragment of total populations. For the vast majority of us whose
ancestors toiled the land, the chances of finding any relations is remote.
(Still, I'd like to learn more about the von Birkholzs mentioned in one of
the books.... :] )

As the website that Walter supplied reveals ( ahnen-und-wappen.de ), a CD is
available for about $35 USD. The site is German-language-only, but it
appears to only be an index CD for volumes 1 through 204. It also appears
that the complete content of volumes 1 through 10 have been burned to
another CD (about $45 USD), with plans to provide the rest of the series on
CD also. Book versions of volumes 1 through 119 are no longer in print, but
the volumes 120 through 204 can be purchased for about $45 USD each)

If anyone has the index CD and is willing to do lookups, please let us know.

If anyone knows of a list of libraries with holdings, let me know.
Otherwise, let's start one.
If you know a library that has some volumes send me the info privately (
).
The Dallas Public Library has most of them.

James
