Hi Marilyn,

If you are lucky like me, your ancestors arrived in NYC during the years
that are not indexed. That makes the search all the more challenging. The
arrivals for Philadelphia and Baltimore are indexed and on film through the
National Archives and FHC. You might want to check them. Since they are
indexed by soundex code, the search is easier. Once you eliminate these
ports, then you will know that they probably arrived in NYC.

Best of success.

>My greatgrandfather, Mark Barnett came from Wreschen, Posen, Germany in
about 1886 or 1887. Within a couple of years he settled in San Francisco.
Family story has it that he and his brother, Sol came over with a cousin.
We have not been able to verify that. Neither have we been able to find him
on any ship's lists, yet. Have checked both "Germans to America" and
Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild. There are other Barnetts we've traced
information on - Hulda and Isaac - who arrived in SF in 1860, and a Phillip
Barnett - arrival date unknown. Hulda's father, Jacob Asch and other of his
children immigrated to US at some point. If anyone has suggestions for
ship's passenger lists, or if anyone is researching their Barnett ancestors,
please reply. Thanks. Marilyn
