I have almost come to a halt on my maternal grandmother Katarzyna Stefaniak
Gawronski. She was born about 1866 to Walenty (Valenty) Stefaniak and
Unknown. She came to the USA in November of 1884 . infact she had a son
Valenty born in ship 5 Nov 1884. I know she had a sister Anna Stefaniak
Radecki who also came to the USA about 1890. Radecki family members know that
Anna's husband was from Swiatkowo, but have no info on Anna's birthplace. My
cousin said that people told my great grandfather Michael Gawronski, that he
spoke Polish with a German accent. She remembers he talked about Poznan, but
since she did not understand Polish, that's all she could offer. On his
naturalization papers it just gives place of birth as Prussia and that he was
under the rule of Kaiser Wilhem. Since Stefaniak is a much less common name,
and today the greatest percentage of Stefaniaks are centered in the province
of Znin, I thought Katarzyna would be easier to tract down. any suggestions?
Thanks, Marcia Castro
