And was looking at you note regarding east-ward migrations during the
1700s.

I don't know the details, but it seems to me the dates you gave
1772-1795, fit in exactly with the three major partitions of Poland.
The first was about 1770, and the Germans took over the extreme western
part of Poland. In the two partitions of the 90s, the rest of Poland
fell into German, Austrian, or Polish hands. So it seems quite possible
your relatives were trying to avoid what they saw and an impending evil.
