May I correct you? The Polish name for Deutsch Krone is Wal/cz. Leceniza is
the Polish name for German Riege. You can find it on website of which I
gave you the link: http://www.deutsch-krone.de/pomorte.htm
Regards from Germany,
Edelgard

side (STEINKE mother) of a family unit declares she was born 1819 in Behle,
Posen (now Biala, Poland) and the paternal side (KRÜGER father) declares
that he was born 1817 in Riege, Deutsch Krone (now Lezenica, Poland). Their
three daughter's birth places are not noted although the three sons are
listed as having been born / christened in various locations within Deutsche
Krone, West Prussia.

some ten years later (1873) in the USA, the daughter gives her place of
birth as Posen... This is the only mention that I have been able to find of
the birthplace for my great-grandmother. Is the term Posen, as used in
such a context likely to refer to the broad geographical area of Posen or
rather the *city* Posen within this area?

great-grandmother Juliana Barbara KRÜGER (KRUEGER) born 1851, along with her
sisters: Appolonia KRÜGER born 1846 and Rosalie KRÜGER born 1855?
