Hi to the list,
I 'm new to this area of research and can use some guidance.
I have finally discovered the manifest for my grandfather Otto Cilke .
On the manifest he is listed as Otto ZILCKE, leaving from Bromberg,
Germany,as last city lived in.
He was b 1890,sister Hilda b 1889 and sister Augusta b. 1891. They
arrived USA 1907 and settled in Philadelphia. with an Uncle Johann
Schaf??k (the uncle's surname is not clear,could be SABA????) , but I
believe it is SCHAFRIK.
The parents of these children are Henry and Julianna Wagner.
Otto is listed as being born in Russia, his sister Hilda in Bromberg.
The family was German Lutheran and were of Polish/German heritage.
Can I rely on ZILCKE as being the correct spelling of the surname when
they boarded the ship? He used CILKE on all documents in the USA.
I would like to connect with anyone who is researching these names or
can offer any suggestions.
Thanks in advance,
Leslie
