Hi Edward,
I wonder if all the Bubacz are related? According to Jay and Diana, Bubacz is from the root buba "fright, idiot" from Fred Hoffman's book, and 450 Bubacz in Poland 1990 (same reference). How many different families would have taken on such a name?

Response of Edward:
About old names in biblical science is the principle "Sitz in Leben" (place in life). Meaning of words constantly changed. Also in different languages and dialects the very same word often has different meaning, for example the word gift in German means poison.
In Greater Poland and Kujavia was living many German settlers. In German bub or bube =
1) boy, lad
2) servant
3) camp-follower, cavalry officer's batman
4) jack (in game of cards)
5) bounder. rascal
Maybe the first Bubacz was zealous gambler? Maybe one branch of the die Bube family changed its name to Bubacz? My ancestor Thomas Wurst (1709-1786) from Borek Wielkopolski changed his name to Worsztynowicz. Many Germans polonized their names and many Poles germanized their names.
Adolf Bube was a German poet born 23 September 1802 in Gotha, dead 17 October 1873 in Gotha (Thuringia). His books: Thüringische Volkssagen, Deutsche Sagen und Sagenhafte Anklänge, Thüringische Sagenschatz in Gedichten.
According prof. Kazimierz Rymut Index (edition 2002) in Poland are living 423 Bubacz individuals = about 120 Bubacz families. Poland is divided into 315 counties (2489 communities). In 16 neighbouring counties of Greater Poland and Kujavia are leaving at present time 68 % of all Bubacz families. In other regions only single families (probably emigrated from this 16 counties). I suppose that all Bubacz living in Poland are related.

PS: Worsten is a name of our genealogical society and in Dutch worsten = sausages.
