Yes, my family is from this town as well. It is spelled Ryczywol, just like
the other town of the same name, not Rycywol. You should be able to find it
on any map now, with the correct spelling. Look north of Poznan, then north
of Oborniki, the main town in the region.

Gentlemen:
I am a 75 year-old Polish-American trying to confirm the existence of a
small village on the outskirts of
the large, important city of Poznan. A relative visited second cousins in
this community and he in 1991
sent me a letter with the community being spelled RYCYWOL. I would
appreciate a confirmation of
whether this community existed or still exists under this name. It should
not be confused with RYCZYWOL
that is in another region of Poland.
My relative is now deceased, but I put great faith in the fact that if he
visited second cousins there, dined
with them, and photographed them during his visit, surely he would be very
careful to spell the name of
the community correctly.
I am currently writing my autobiography. I have worn many hats and have
been involved in many occupations
and wish to leave a record for posterity of my experiences. My
great-grandfather was a drover who moved
cattle from the Poznan region to Berlin. On one such trip, after selling
his cattle, he was robbed and killed
for his money. Thereafter, my grandfather, apprenticed as a worstmonger,
immigrated to the United States
about 1868 and established his business in Minto, North Dakota, a small
town of 600 population some
30 miles north of Grand Forks, North Dakota. I write local and regional
history of North Dakota and
Minnesota and have some 32 titles related to aspects of such history. I
would greatly appreciate a reply to this query email, providing
information and confirming the
spelling and existence of RYCYWOL as a community situated some 20 miles out
of Poznan.
Thank you. I can provide, if needed, my regular mailing address, if maps
or confirming materials
can be sent to me.
Sincerely,
John Rolczynski at
