If you know which Lutheran Church your ancestors attended in this country, try and find those records with either the local congregation or the church archives. Many Lutheran churches recorded the village of origin for all of their parishioners. The records were written in German usually. Every time that a parishioner was confirmed, baptized, married, buried, an entry would be made. Frequently there is a great deal of information in these records.

I found my great-great-grandparents' villages of origin with Lutheran Church records from the local congregation. With that initial information, I was then able to make a direct connection overseas where I could find out more information with German records.
