Dear Karen,
Have you tried Lutheran Church Records at the church where your ancestors worshipped in this country?
A great many Lutheran Churches in this country recorded the village of origin for each of their parishioners in their records of confirmations, christenings, marriages, burials, etc. Many of the local churches maintain their records still even though many of them are written in German (it is elementary German - not complicated).
I found the villages of origin for both of my great-great grandparents from Lutheran Church Records in Illinois. It was an incredible find. With my grandfather, I was then able to go even further back with German records than I would have imagined possible.
Contact the church where your ancestors worshipped and find out from the church secretary or parson if they still maintain the records. Some of them have been microfilmed and will be in a church regional archive. I rented one film for a month for $15.00 (Evangelical Lutheran Church of America).
Try the local church first, however, as many of them still maintain their records locally.
Good luck.
