Hello! I'm new to the list and am researching the Gentz family. I have an IGI printout that has a Wilhelmine Gentz christened on 01 Apr 1850 in/at Lobsens, Posen, Preussen? What is the locale? or what does it mean? How can I find out what church? I do - or think I do ! - know that it was a Lutheran church as they did attend a Lutheran parish when they got to New York and then to Michigan. Was this area in Germany or Poland at this time?
Could someone also explain to me what it means when I see words with "~" among the letters? I presume these are stupid questions, but my European reseach is not at all well developed at this time! And, many thanks. Sandy
