Subject: Display of German accents
Date: Fri, 3 Jun 2005 07:47:31 -0700 (PDT)
Hi, Katherine,
Many of us have been frustrated by the gibberish that we receive when writers use the codes on American computers to add the accents. The problem is especially bad on AOL.
So the question to the Ritter is: Do you want everyone to read your letter?
As some of our German correspondents have said, it is equally correct to use ae, oe, ue, ss, etc. and then we can all read the letters. Since the object of these lists is to have ones letter read, it is logical to make it as easy as possible for it to be read.
LaVerne,
