My wife's gr-gr-grandfather lived in Kries Obornik (Owinsk, Lang Goslin, Chutowo, etc) from 1834-1881. He was identified as a "day laborer". What kind of work did "day laborers" actually perform ?
Also, was there a reason so many Germans emigrated to the USA in the 1870's and 80's ? Bruce J of Maplewood, MN.
