Subject: Batch numbers and their use

Dear list,
Apparently there are some newer members of this list who are not
aware of the use of batch numbers (or even film numbers) to find people
at a particular locale on the IGI on the LDS website.
See the archives at the end of February 2002 and early March 2003 for
details, but since some asked I repeat the procedure in detail:

1. Click on the International Gen. Index button on the LDS site.
2. Put in the surname or whatever you are researching. You may
even specify the father (and mother). You can even leave it blank to
see all the names in the database. You can also just try a particular
given name without the surname and see all occurrences. Try different
spellings too to be sure not to miss any.
3. You have to specify a country-- specify Germany.
4. Then at the lower left, in the batch number box put in the
batch number, or the film number, if that's all you have-- one or the
other, so C999071, for example. (Note: whenever you find a valuable
batch number, try this procedure)
5. Click "Search", and the results will come up. Click on ones
you want.

I trust this is clear enough and helpful to those new to the list.
