Hi - I hope you know that many of these databases, especially the older ones,
had no way of writing umlauts or other diacritical markings, so you might
want to revisit those Fodor people. That's so close - just Födor = Foedor. You
might also check out Vodor - listen to the way the Germans would pronounce it.
Its Volkswagen to us, but Folksvagen to them.

Aha! I just looked in Bahlow's book (pretty good) and found no Fodor, Födor
or Foedor, but did find a Voder: Low German, = Futter (fodder), feed dealer.
Godeke Vodere, Lübeck 1300, Vodersnider, "feed cutter" Hamburg 1492,
Vodekere "feeder" 1360, Vadermast, Lübeck 1325, Vodersack, Dortmund 1391,
Vadersester, Col. 1178, (sester = wooden dry measure).
