Thanks for your response. I think my John Powell was in Washington KY in
1830, perhaps born there. He was 46 in the 1850 census of Buchanan MO, then
went to Doniphan KS, was still alive in 1880. His wife was named Mary,
oldest son James Martin Powell. A John Powell married Polly Martin in
Mercer KY in 1826, so I think that might be the right parents for James.
Does this match any of your information?
