Just a message to let you know that the Special for Y-DNA is coming to an
end on the 31 July, and if you intend doing your Y-DNA it needs to be now to
save that money. At present the 37 Marker is on Special for $US119, plus
$US4.00 postage if you live in America; or $US6.00 if you are international
like me (87.73 Euro). To give you an idea how much you save on the Special
the 37 marker costs $US249 plus postage if you do it yourself. By joining a
Surname or Geographical Project you get a permanent discount of $US169 plus
postage. So you see it is quite a saving. You can save more by doing the 67
marker straight off but that is up to you. The main thing is to do at least
the 25 marker as this allows you to find your cousins. www.familytreedna.com
(FTDNA) tells me that if two participants have an exact 25 marker match then
they both had the exact same ancestor sometime after 1066AD, regardless of
surname, as back then not all had surnames. In fact one guy was an exact 25
marker match to me, with another surname, and after we had done our 37 and
67 markers I asked the Internet DNA scientists where this left us. They
replied that because of the mutations we had (three...37, two....67) our
exact same ancestor was alive somewhere in the 1500s. Of course I am hanging
out for the exact 67 marker cousin as this would bring it right forward to
the 1700-1900s, at a guess.

Anyhow....if you would like to join a Project go to FTDNA and put in the
surname http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Power . This
covers the surnames POWER, POWERS, POOR, POORE and POER. Perhaps you will
find an exact 25 marker match on this Project.



I started this surname Project back some seven years but cannot say it has
been overall successful as we only have 90 participants to date. From this I
have a number of exact 25 markers, including an Irish gentleman. This
includes two POOREs and the one POER. If you are an Irish POWER I would love
to have you join us.



Then, if you were to look at the surname CAMPBELL you would see how well
they are doing. They are doing much better than the POWERs as there are 444
of them compared to our 90. Still one day we might catch them up.
