Further to Eleanor's information below, I just want to add that if these
entries are from the LDS IGI (presume they are?), please keep in mind that,
for purposes of indexing, the LDS *assumed*, prior to 1813, a child's
surname would be the same as the father's *Christian* (first) name --- they
were trying to accomodate the patronymic system. So, for instance, the
actual parish register entry for Margaret, dau. of John Howell, would *not*
have included a surname for the child at all --- she may have used John or
Howell for a surname. (Her marriage entry would be the most likely
indicator, unless she was name in a will prior to her marriage.)
