Stuart,

I have no HOPTON ancestry -- curiosity led me to look for the name in
"Surnames of Wales" -- no listing for HOPTON as a "Welsh" surname. Possibly
it's origin is the parish of Hopton Castle in Shropshire, quite near the RAD
border.
