Hello Patricia
The first parish is Llandrindod, no Wells as a suffix, according to my
Parloc parish register software. Cefnllys is 3.1m north east of Llandrindod
(probably Crossgates area on modern road maps).
Think the town would have been called Ll Wells after people started to visit
the parish to "take the waters" which would have been about 1860, I would
have thought. Quite a thriving tourist resort by 1900.
Cefn means "back". Bach-y-graig would probably be a farm. It means hook
of the rock - I think literally just under a rock or a crag (for shelter?).
There is a famous Bach y Graig in Tremeirchion near St Asaph, but I doubt
there will be any connection. The farmhouse Bach y Graig at Tremeirchion
was absolutely huge with battlements. It was farmed by Mr Clwyd Roberts
till recently, and now his son David, and appeared in Country Life about 30
years ago when they did a series of famous old Welsh country houses.
Best wishes
John Cullwick
