Hi Diane...
I know Jones, Hughes and Williams are very popular names in Wales....but
although
my wife's Hugh Hughes may not be the same as yours, I would venture to say
they are certainly related.
Hugh Hughes, b. abt 1847 Capel Curig, North Wales, and wife, Elizabeth
Williams,
possibly of the same area (Caernorfon?) arrived in Canada or America in late
1880s.
and settled in Granville, Washington county in upper New York state. He was a
hard rock miner and was killed in a mine accident in 1914.
His Children were:
Jane Hughes who married Harry Jones..
They had Jennie, Elizabeth, John and Margaret
Elizabeth.
Margaret Elizabeth Hughes who married Thomas Harry Brown
They had Thomas, Hugh, David, Charlotte,
Margaret and Marie
Richard Walter Hughes who married Lena Surrell
They had Walter, Frances, Hugh G. and Marian
Elizabeth
David Hughes ....(no further information)
Robert Hughes....(No further information)
I recall there were lots of Jones and Browns in the 1900 Washington county NY
census....but I was looking for Hugh Brown's parents at the time and did not
notice the Hughes listings at the time. (My wife's father was Hugh Brown, son
of Harry Brown and Elizabeth (Hughes as we later learned).
I am still looking for the parents of Hugh Hughes and Elizabeth Williams. I
have located several Hugh Hughes/Elizabeth Williams couples in Wales, but
never in the right age groups.
Perhaps we could share since we are looking for some of the same families.

I am new to the list and am looking for a connections to my
gggrandparents. My gggrandparents came to the United States in
September, 1881. Their names were John R. Jones (dob 05/25/1852) and
wife Jane Hughes (dob 11/16/1850). They had a son John Jones who was
born 06/02/1881. He was only three months old when they sailed from
Wales. On Jane Hughes Jones' death certificate, it states her fathers
name was Hugh Hughs and mothers name was Mary. It states North Wales as
the birthplace for both Jane, Hugh and Mary. On John R. Jones Death
Certificate is states his dads name was (surprise...) John Jones.
They settled in Portage, Pennsylvania, USA. The IGI has Jane Hughes (dob
04/07/1850, Llanfaelog, Anglesey, Wales) and Hugh Hughes (dob
07/16/1842, Gyffin, Caernarvon, Wales), but the mothers name is Maria?
They IGI also has a son listed as named William (dob 05/31/1848 Gyffin,
also) listed. Does any of your information connect to anyone?
