Hi Margaret

Like you I enjoy the occasional chats we get from Richard & Dennis. As you
say, can anyone join in? The occupant of Marchnant in 1843 was a David
Lantrow - according to John Davies in the Gwardole letters. I should think it
quite likely that he was there in 1838. Strange that Joseph Bound gave his
profession as bachelor - I would think somebody filled in the wrong column of
the certificate. By 1851 the occupant of Marchnant was Stephen Pugh, brother
in law to my 3 x great grandfather John Lewis (Jack Tyngraig). I have still
not worked out how Stephen Pugh managed to rise from being a humble shepherd
in 1841 to being the tenant of a 150 acre farm in 1851, employing ten men.
This increase in fortune is all the more remarkable because during that same
decade he married his second wife Elizabeth Lewis and had 5 children all of
whom died, as did Elizabeth, - the census revealing nothing of this domestic
tragedy. Having got out the G Letters just now, I noticed that there is
mention of a Rees Lewis of Glanhirin, and as this name features on your
family tree, Margaret, I wonder if he is related to the Lewises of Llanafon
fawr - by this time somewhat dispersed. Perhaps Richard would know???

Best regards, Rut
