Alex,
I think it sounds like the Sircam worm virus, and the best thing I can do is
forward an e-mail from Jeff on one of my other lists, which explains what
this is. (Jeff, if you're on the Powys list also, I apologise for jumping
in!)

Another loophole in MicroSoft applications. :(
It uses the MS address book to propagate itself, along with random files
from your My Documents folder. A nasty piece of work, but an incredibly
clever piece of work.
I don't use MS Internet software, nor their address book and have never
fallen foul of any virus. Although I've got loads of them locked up on
my test-box computer. :-)

Good advice. However, the code only activates on certain dates in a
month, so I'd virus check your system anyway. Don't forget to upgrade
your virus checker data-base first, though, because it's very new code.
