Dear John,

Whilst Margaret's reply is good for WWII (& all Army personnel records
for those discharged in or after 1922), WWI records are now lodged at
the PRO, Kew.
I reckon that your ancestor's unit, John, was No.2 Bty (= Battery), RGA
(Royal Garrison Artillery). As you have his Service Number, you may
glean some information from the v. knowledgeable listers at:
