Hi everyone,
This time last week I had just returned home to Staffordshire after spending a couple of days in a very windy and wet Radnorshire.
It had been a very special two days as for the first time I met Sharon Morris and her first cousin Huw Morris who also subscribe to this list from time to time. I originally came across Sharon on this list a few years ago with us both researching our Mills ancestors in Radnorshire. We couldn't find a connection but carried on writing, enjoying our correspondence.
You may remember our delight some time later at finding we had an ancestor in common thanks to a new member of Powys F.H.S. who made the connection. The three of us were descended from three Mills brothers, sons of our 4 x great grandparents David and Mary Mills (nee Jones) of Nantmel. Since then we have found two more descendants of David and Mary thanks to the society.
Sharon was over from America where she lives and was staying not far from Nantmel where our ancestors had lived. I went over to meet her and on the Sunday we were joined by her first cousins and Liz who had made the connection between us. The others obviously knew each other well but Liz and I and our husbands were made to feel very much part of their family even though we were just very distant relatives. It really was a very special time for us all. It was also an interesting experience meeting people who we had originally contacted by e-mail and finding that they were exactly as we had imagined from our correspondence. Perhaps we were just lucky and not all meetings are this enjoyable and successful.
We are now considering the possibility of a reunion and hoping that by then we will have discovered some more Mills cousins.
I am very grateful for the opportunities offered by this list and the Powys F.H.S. that led to us finding each other.
Regards,
Margaret Harvey
